Vehicle knowledge basics

Essential vehicle knowledge for the Swiss theory exam.

Lights and indicators

Know when to use dipped headlights, full beam, fog lights and hazard lights.

Indicators must be used when changing lanes, turning or pulling over.

Tyres and brakes

Minimum tread depth is 1.6 mm. Check tyre pressure regularly.

Brakes should be tested before driving. ABS helps prevent wheel lock-up during emergency braking.

Safety equipment

Seat belts are mandatory for all occupants. Children need appropriate restraint systems.

A warning triangle and reflective vest must be carried. Use them if you break down on the road.
